Best Goji Berry juice & smoothie recipes

Goji berries are reputed to be one of nature’s superfoods and many health plans promote drinking goji berry juice. There might be something to this. A Chinese legend Li Tui Yueng is told to have lived to 252 years of age and he drank a tea made from goji berries, reishi mushrooms and ginseng daily.


As with most whole foods the nutrients are maximized when processing is minimized. Therefore making your own juice or smoothies at home using dried goji berries can help you maximize the nutrients you are consuming. Here are five easy juice and smoothie recipes for you to try:



Pure Goji juice


Soak a handful of dried goji berries in a cup of lukewarm water for about 30 minutes to an hour. Once the berries have hydrated, blend the mixture in a blender to make a juice. You can drink it straight away or you can chill in the fridge if you prefer a cooler juice. For a milder flavor strain the berries from the water and use only the liquid as a juice. Goji water can also be used as a base for smoothies and other drinks.


Goji Pineapple juice


Soak a tablespoon of goji berries in a cup of lukewarm water for 30 to 60 minutes. Peel a 5cm thick slice of fresh pineapple. Blend the goji berries and water and the pineapple in a juicer. For a variation of this juice you can add a small slice of fresh ginger or a stick of celery. This is a delicious breakfast juice or in between snack. Make sure you include the core of the pineapple as this holds the valuable bromelain enzyme that is very beneficial to digestion.


Goji berry berry juice


Soak a tablespoon of goji berries in a cup of lukewarm water for 30 to 60 minutes. Add half a cup of fresh or frozen berries. Blueberries or strawberries are particularly tasty, but you can also use blackberries, raspberries or mixed berries. Combine all ingredients in a juicer or blender and serve slightly chilled. This is a delicious lunchtime drink and is a firm favorite with children.


Goji power sports smoothie


Add a tablespoon of pure whey powder, a cup of Natureland beetroot juice, a tablespoon of goji berries, a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds, a teaspoon of flaxseed, half a teaspoon of black sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons of raw organic Natureland oats and a small organic apple. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth in a blender.  Enjoy before and after exercise to help boost energy levels and rejuvenate tired muscles.


Goji breakfast smoothie


An easy to make smoothie that everyone in the family will enjoy. In a blender add together half a cup of plain full fat yoghurt, a handful of fresh or frozen berries, a teaspoon of flaxseed, a tablespoon of raw organic Natureland oats, and a teaspoon of dried goji berries. Blend all the ingredients together and enjoy as a quick breakfast that can be drunk on the go.
