Juicing for Detox
Juicing has become a popular way to detox and there are a variety of approaches you can use -depending on your reasons for embarking on a detox program. Even if you do not have acute health issues, participating in a detox from time to time can help cleanse your system and help boost your energy levels and immunity.
It is important to remember that a detox program requires discipline. In order to reap the benefits, stay the course and follow through with the whole program. Stopping halfway, or cheating by eating foods that you are not supposed to, can undo all the hard work you’ve put in until then.
Why juicing is good for detoxing
Juicing provides essential nutrients in their purest form, without the added fibre that makes your digestive system work. Put another way, drinking juice helps to feed your body with essential nutrients while allowing your digestive system to rest and heal itself.
To make the detox easier, it helps to prepare the body and the mind for the detox process. The mind can play tricks on you, for example: The minute you decide you want to avoid certain foods they are probably the foods you will crave most. It helps to have a detox goal and purpose, because that way when you are tired, hungry or feel like giving up, it will give you a reason to continue and complete the detox.
Decide how many days you will follow the detox program. As minimum, it is recommended to detox for at least 3-5 days in a row to reap the most benefits. In addition, to help reduce the shock to your system of suddenly drinking only liquids, it’s best to have a day or two of cleansing before the detox and a gradual breaking of the fast following the detox.
Juices to use during the cleansing process
During cleansing, you should avoid any processed foods, as well as meats and sugary foods. Replace these foods with fresh organic fruits and vegetables eaten raw or lightly steamed. In addition to drinking plenty of water, you can drink fermented sauerkraut juice that can start to feed your system with beneficial enzymes.
Best juices for detox
During detox, you will want to drink juices that are rich in phenolic compounds, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and lower in sugars.
